Demo Review: Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 is the upcoming installment of the popular franchise, Resident Evil. It will be developed and published by gaming company, Capcom. The game was announced on July of 2005, and is set to be released in Japan on March 5th, 2009, and on March 13th, in North America and Europe.

The gameplay is very similar to its predecessor, Resident Evil 4. It will feature an over-the-shoulder third person point of view, much like Leon S. Kennedy in RE4. It is said that the environment will also play a role in its gameplay. For example, when Chris Redfield moves through dark and bright areas, his eyes would have to adjust, causing the player to briefly lose some sight.

The game will also feature new forms of enemies! In the extended E3 2007 preview, they showed Redfield battling off an army of fleet-footed enemies who carried melee weapons. It was also stated that the enemies will possess human-like intelligence and awareness.

The demo for this was released last night, so I was actually able to try this out and see if it would live up to its hype.

First off, I would like to send mad props over to Capcom's direction cuz I firmly believe that Resident Evil 5 will be a strong competitor for "Game Of The Year" this year! Let's talk a little about its graphics first. The graphics on this game is definitely mind-blowing. It's presemted in 720p, but nonetheless, the game looks really good. In fact, it looks so good that sometimes it's almost impossible to tell which is a cut-scene, and which is gameplay. There were actually times when I'd say to myslef, "damn, this looks f*cking real!!!!" I think Capcom definitely kicked it up a notch with this one.

The gameplay did not disappoint either. I mean, yeah it took me a while to sorta get the feel for the controls, but when you finally get the feel for it, the game just becomes so much fun! The only thing that I would change on this is the camera movement. While the camera mechanics aren't bad, it is at time very difficult to control, but it's probably just one of those things that you need to get used to. Another thing that I enjoyed on this is how easy it was to access your weapons. Unlike the previous installments where you had to go to the weapons menu to equip your weapon, Resident Evil 5 utilizes the D-Pad for quick selection of your weapons and items.

Resident Evil 5 can also be played as co-op. I think that this was a great idea! I think it makes the game more fun, not only because you'll be able to play with a friend, but also because it adds new dynamics to the game. For example, while I was playing the demo, I had reached certain areas where I had to lift new character, Sheva Alomar over a wall so that she could open a door for me. This sort of co-op dynamic will definitely make the game more challenging and interesting.

Resident Evil 5 is definitely one of those games that you're gonna have to keep an eye out for! This game will not only be big, it'll be huge!! The Resident Evil franchise has been very successful throughout the years, and I think that RE5 will only add to its success. With killer graphics, awesome gameplay, and your usual Resident Evil storyline, it can't miss! I honestly can't wait til its released, cuz I will definitely be picking this up as soon as it's out!
