Car Fun Fact of the Day: The Legend of the Prancing Moose

Moose History 101:* Shortly after the XC90 debuted in 2002, Volvo organized several test drive events, where quite a few Volvo fans came out to see and drive the new SUV's on cone slalom courses to experience the advanced Dynamic Stability Traction Control (DSTC).* One of the courses was a special slalom, where a professional driver would take a carload of folks, accelerate to a high speed, take his foot off the brake and gas, and crank the wheel hard one direction, then the other (simulating avoiding an object in the road).* Any other tall vehicle would have certainly become unstable and possibly lost control or even rolled over, but the Volvo's DSTC took over and kept the SUV in perfect form without a hint of trouble.* This course was the "Moose Avoidance Test," a fairly common test for places that might actually have moose.

Then for the 2004 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, the blue/yellow moose profile emblem appeared on a red concept XC90.* Then Volvo's moose emblem for their 2005 XC90 V8 debut was the black one on the yellow fender (rendition of Lambo's bull). And thus, the legend began.

Habrec @ C! Magazine

Hey guys! Just wanted to let you guys know that the latest issue of C! Magazine is out now! Its a great local mag that focuses on the local car scene and tuners. They test run of the mill cars like the Toyota Corolla, but also pits beasts against one another like the Porsche GT2 & the Nissan GT-R. Whats great about it is that they use cars found here in the PI. Although I still don't agree with how some of those owners got their cars (ahem corrupt politicians ahem), its a good read from a local perspective.

This month's issue (January) is C!'s Anniversary Issue, and low and behold, who did they ask to feature in their tech tuner segment? None other than my sponsor and good friends @ Habrec Enterprises. Too bad a lot of the pics didn't make the mag, but it still turned out great. Of course, I'm really proud and happy to say that my car made it in. Hey guys! To those who've been wondering where ErSH went, don't worry, I'm alive and kicking! I haven't been "fired," I wasn't in the hospital, and yes, I'm still on the face of the Earth. Just been really busy and tired with my day job so I left most of the posting to my fellow Masterminds who've done great in my absence.

An event that I've personally been waiting for, The Manila Auto Salon 2008. Hot cars... hot girls... thats a great start right there and already good reason to go! Check it out guys and give some support to those you know or my sponsor, HABREC Enterprises. They'll be debuting an all new custom kit for the Volvo C30. Ill probably be there at their booth as well, as we're also going to debut our new line of Wheels, specifically for Volvos.


My other friends have also told me about the cars they'll be entering in the show and so far, its sounding to be a pretty interesting one. The only downside is that I wasn't able to enter mine (haha)!

Rumor: Volvo developing 300hp C30?

Rumors of a new Volvo hot hatch have gotten hot again with talk of a new 300-horsepower C30 for Europe. And how does that relate to us living in the PI you ask? For those who don't already know, Volvo's here are shipped whole, directly from Europe... so we carry the European line-up which differs from the US one. According to sources, the 300hp C30 will be powered by a 2.5-liter inline-five cylinder turbo engine coupled with AWD!

Rumors also state that larger 20-inch wheels ought to fill out the arches quite nicely, and a special body kit should bring the whole look closer to the tarmac. This car is definitely sounding sweet and its really great to have another performance-minded Volvo in the works. Hopefully this will change the minds of those who think Volvo's are only for Daddy's or that they're slow. I mean, look at mine and say that! (haha!)
