Michael Crichton: 1942-2008
"This Is So Going In My Blog."
Michael Crichton, the million-selling author of vastly popular novels such as Jurassic Park, Timeline, and Disclosure has just passed away due to cancer.
He died Tuesday in Los Angeles at the age of 66 after a long battle with the illness.
Michael Crichton was considered an inspiration to many students of all ages, his stories challenged scientists all over the world, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way that would capture us, entertain us, as well as understand them in a way that we could.

Crichton, besides being an author, was also a screenwriter and filmmaker. He has produced and earned writing credits for many of the film versions of his novels. He also created ER in 1994.
He was to release yet another novel next month, but was indefinitely postponed because of his illness.
Stephen Spielberg, who directed Jurassic Park has released his statement:
"Michael's talent out-scaled even his own dinosaurs of 'Jurassic Park." He was the greatest at blending science with big theatrical concepts, which is what gave credibility to dinosaurs again walking the earth. In the early days, Michael had just sold "The Andromeda Strain" to Robert Wise at Universal and I had recently signed on as a contract TV director there. My first assignment was to show Michael Crichton around the Universal lot. We became friends and professionally "Jurassic Park," "ER," and "Twister" followed. Michael was a gentle soul who reserved his flamboyant side for his novels. There is no one in the wings that will ever take his place."
Our thoughts and prayers are out to his family......
