Rock it out with ROCK BAND!
To all those rockers, frustrated musicians, or anyone who just wants to have fun and feel like a rockstar overnight, this one's for you! Whichever console you own, whether it be the PS3, 360, or the Wii, thanks to Harmonix's Rock Band, you and your friends can join the legendary pantheon of rock gods!
For those uncertain about these kinda games, you gotta at least try it out. I'm not even goin to tell you to buy it, cuz once you rock it out for a night, you'll probably go get it yourself or pester your friends to let u play it at their house!
The songs will make or break games like these, cuz lets face it, why are you goin to play a music game with crappy music?! Rock Band doesnt fall short in this area with 45 licensed tracks. It includes world famous bands from the 60's to today, such as Nirvana, Metallica, The Ramones, AC DC, Weezer, Radiohead, Garbage, Coheed & Cambria, Paramore and much, much more along with online downloadable content (which means even more songs!). You can either buy the game itself and use it with your regular controller, or go for broke with the box set (that costs an arm and a leg locally, @ P12k). The set comes with a wireless guitar, a wired mic, a wired drum kit, and a dongle for the guitar. If you want a full four-player band with bass guitarist, you'll need to purchase a separate guitar.
To those who dont know, the premise of the game is basically to strum (guitar/bass) and bang (drums) on the right color as the colored blocks pass onto the desired area. If your on the mic, there are lyrics with the proper tones up top which you sing, kinda like karaoke. It does indeed sound very simple, but on the harder difficulties, it requires a lot of skill and incredible hand-to-eye coordination.
The single player mode is good, somewhat like Guitar Hero, though it is much easier to get into. From playing both Rock Band and Guitar Hero, its evident that Rock Band is much more accessible for the casual gamer and you can just jump into easy mode with very little difficulty. You will only be able to play a certain amount of songs at first, but upon playing the career mode, you'll unlock more.
The career mode is intense. It starts out by you being able to create your own character which you can later customize. It really gives you the feeling of being in a band thats starting out, trying to succeed and eventually getting into the rock n roll hall of fame. Its definitely got some depth in it as you cannot truly complete the game on just easy mode. In order to unlock more songs, you have to play in the harder difficulties which takes quite a bit of practice to play. To progress, you will also need to gain fans or a following, which depend on each song you play. If you succeed with a high grade, you'll gain fans, as well as money which you can use to customize your personalized character with threads and gear. But if you fail, you will lose fans and thus not being able to progress and get new gigs.

The best multiplayer/party game? For me, its got to be up there along with the Super Smash Bros. series. Rock Band has definitely raised the bar for music games, with its addition of the mic, drums and bass. Though theres no doubt that you would really need to invest in a game like this. If you find that you will most probably play this alone, I would suggest getting Guitar Hero instead (unless you love the drums), but for a group, playing this has got to be some of the most fun I've had in awhile. Dont worry, even those who dont listen or know much about rock/alternative music, (like a certain black friend I've got HAHA!) can still have a hell of a time!
