Arguably the most sought after Air Jordan of all time, the Jordan XI (Space Jam's) will once again hit the shelves this year... if the stocks even reach there that is! Why you ask? First, the Space Jam's will be released in limited quantities and 2nd, for those who know their kicks, people who have connections usually buy out all the stocks before some of us even get a glance, then sell it for higher... MUCH HIGER prices on the grey market. So if you want these, use all the contacts you can! They're said to be dropping this November 27th for around $175. Who knows if they'll reach our shores though.

Prince of Persia: Sands of time Poster

The first official Prince of Persia movie poster is here, with a shot of the leading lady I'm guessing... who's lookin hott! Prince of Persia aims to be one of next years summer blockbusters yet there hasn't been much or any promotional materials coming our way. Lets hope that this movie isn't another videogame movie gone wrong. The casting looks to be good and hopefully a teaser will prove that to us soon.

For those who don't already know the story, its based on the massively popular series of videogames, the story sees Gyllenhaal as a 'rogue prince' Dastan and Gemma Arterton as 'mysterious princess' Tamina, who reluctantly team up to safeguard an ancient dagger that could release the Sands of Time, allowing its possessor to reverse time and rule the world. Watch out for this on May 28, 2010!

Aston Martin Lagonda Concept

I never really liked British cars... with Jags spending more time in the shop than in your garage and screaming out pompous. Range Rovers have recently stepped it up, but the old ones suffered from huge maintenance costs and frequently busted air suspension, but Aston has really changed my mind about British sports cars. After releasing the DB7, all their cars have been a hit and in my eyes, a beautiful piece of art. Which pains me to say that this new Aston Lagonda SUV concept has been put on hold, or even scrapped. Critics have bashed Aston's first effort into the SUV market, but I feel otherwise.

...I think its BADASS! With that huge grill and unmistakable Aston Martin design. This is what the Porsche Cayenne should have been! Too bad Aston has shelved this concept because of financial reasons, which isn't really far fetched this day in age. But Aston Martin Lagonda chairman David Richards reportedly wants to get a new concept on the stands before the end of the year, and I can't wait to see that!

And your typical run of the mill night vision goggles already cost over $100, so this is a bargain.

2) IT WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BADASS! - Yes, I can already imagine going downstairs for a midnight snack, going all Sam Fisher mode just to get some food. Experiencing black-outs in your area? NO PROBLEM! No lights necessary here! It will even save you a lil on your electricity bill!

3) F#*K AROUND WITH PEOPLE - When you pull practical jokes on your friends and it works, nothing else gives you that little surge of joy and happiness. With these NVG's, you can do just that. Camp out somewhere at night and kick the shit out of them or scare them like no other!

4) GO COOP ON SOMEONE - Both you and your friend have $150 lying around? Whats more fun that messing with people? Messing with people with a friend! I can think of so many stupid things you can do with these, but thats reserved for another "Top-series."

PS3 Slim: Real or Fake?

...You be the judge. I'm still calling this one fake though cuz I'm the type of person who wont believe it til i see it (and right now, no ones seen it! haha). But if I am wrong and the PS3 Slim did get leaked and looks like this... its looking pretty sweet. It's said to be around the same size (if not smaller) as the first-gen PS2. Though it would 10x better if the casing was polished instead of matte.

Vantage Road Study: Hybrid Cars... may not be so friendly on the environment and on your pocket

Nowadays, when we hear that someones driving a hybrid car, we may think, wow, this dude's conscious about the environment, oil prices and CO2 emissions, but that may not necessarily be true according to a recent study done in the US of A. Yes, a simple side by side comparison between hybrids, diesels and gas powered cars will show you that the hybrid is more efficient on a mile to mile basis, BUT it seems that according to the study by Quality Planning, hybrid owners drive more than non-hybrid owners which may negate all the benefits of having a hybrid in the first place.

Some may be thinking, what kind of study these guys at Quality Planning do? Well, they tested over 360,000 cars through 2007 and 2008 and analyzed their driving habits which yielded a pretty interesting result. According to the survey, hybrid and non-hybrid drivers have statistically similar commutes, but hybrid owners drive their vehicles 25% more (2,000 miles) in non-commuting scenarios.

Dr. Raj Bhat, president of Quality Planning, thinks part of the reason for these findings has something to do with the fact that high mileage drivers are typically more interested in hybrids than infrequent drivers.

"What we don't know is whether owning a hybrid vehicle encourages people to drive more miles each day or take more pleasure trips. High-mileage drivers appear to be attracted to these vehicles, so insurers should take steps to verify the intended use of hybrids and validate actual miles driven wherever possible."

The study also shows that hybrid owners are significantly more likely to receive traffic tickets. According to the survey, Toyota Prius owners received .38 tickets per 100,000 miles driven, versus a non-hybrid average of .23 tickets per 100,000 miles. That's a 65% differential. One possible explanation for the ticket disparity has to do with where hybrid owners live. Quality Planning found that hybrid owners are more likely to live in an urban setting, where tickets are more frequently issued.

Though not much of those have much bearing in the Philippines because first, the ones who have cars aren't likely to commute at all and cops, we just run away from. But here's where it gets good... HYBRIDS COST SIGNIFICANTLY MORE TO REPAIR! The Ford Escape Hybrid, for example, costs 31% more to repair than the gasoline-only model, while repairing the Toyota Highlander Hybrid will reportedly add 45% more cost!

This doesn't look good for hybrids. Especially with Toyota Philippines bringing in the Prius, MAN, to anyone who knows their cars, thats definitely a bad move. As the study shows, they cost more to fix, and coincidentally, cars in the Philippines tend to suffer wear and tear faster than developed countries. And with its P2M+ price tag, anyone in their right mind would buy something else because we've learned that hybrids just aren't that efficient once you look deeper than the sugar coated numbers they show you. My advice, just buy a car that you really want. Don't settle for a crappy looking Prius just because you feel pressured to save the environment. Screw hybrids and use as much gas as you can while supplies last! Lets not forget, a Prius actually is more environmentally damaging than a Hummer H2! Why? Because no one considers where & how the "fuel" for the hybrid is processed/coming from... AH-HA!

Nokia sets sights a little lower

Okay, when I said "lower," I meant, LOW, and Nokia is taking respectable measures, to put it nicely. The world's largest mobile phone maker just announced a 66% yearly drop in Q2 profit, as well as lowering its market share target for 2009. Nokia is definitely feeling the pressure from its closest rivals, Apple, RIM and Samsung, which coincidentally, lead the smartphone market.

This looks to really spell trouble for Nokia. They had actually expected their market share to rise in 2009, but it looks like they set their sights a little too high. Nokia had probably expected an increase in market share because of the successful launch of its flagship phone, the N97, but other than the S60 groupies, the N97 hasn't actually received critical acclaims... not even anywhere close. With their trump card, the N97, receiving bland reviews (probably because it was launch after its competitors with no real advantages or revolutionary features) and with nothing special being announced by Nokia, their troubles may have just began.

Sony Ericsson posts $299 million Q2 loss, but a gain for us... Playstation Phone coming Q4?

I'm sure it comes to no surprise that many, MANY companies are suffering losses nowadays, but for Ericsson, it's not all that bad, at least not as bad as its recent $382 million loss. Sony Ericsson also believes this is due to the waves of smartphones that have been coming out that their losing out on their mid-tier mobile phones. For SE fans, all isn't lost, SE said that they are working in that direction and their higher end devices should smack us in the face this Q4. But wait, theres more... one of their devices thats said to be hitting this fourth quarter is rumored "to integrate with Playstation." What that means, only time will tell. Will we have our coveted PSP phone, a phone that just has similar OS and look to the Playstation, or even just a device that allows for remote-play?

I'm most definitely rooting for a PSP phone, but even s smart phone that integrates the Playstation OS' look and feel, and actually looks good is always welcome competition for iPhone lovers such as myself and fellow Vantage bloggers. More competition usually equals good news for consumers like us. But one thing is for sure, we probably wont be seeing anything for the next 3 months (since nothing's coming out in Q3) except for another Sony Ericsson loss. Good luck to you guys at SE!

PS3 Slim in the Philippines?!

For the gamers out there, I'm sure you've already heard, the PS3 Slim has been spotted in the Philippines, coincidentally where we're from. I know, I know, we're late on the news, but I've actually been following a thread on the Pinoyps.com site (local PS3 forum) for updates and someone was actually supposed to check it out yesterday so I was hoping to wait for the news and post it here right away. But it seems that someone bought it before our contact could check it out.

For those who are still in the dark, news thus far is that the one who was selling it said it came from the States and now, the unit has been sold to someone for around P22k ($460), most likely to be re-sold at a much higher price (that's the way the Philippines works). A group of curious cats on the pinoyps.com forum have said that they will go today and look for it, finally validating whether or not this is a hoax.

BUT, since this is Vantage, it's never complete without our point of view... and I call BULLSHIT! Although I dont really need to explain myself, I will anyway. Some of my major arguments is that if it is indeed out, leaked, stolen or whatever, and is in the hands of someone out there, why hasn't Sony said anything? This news is out on probably all the major gaming sites, yet Sony has kept quiet. Why? Cuz its probably fake! If its already out and someone has it, how can Sony not acknowledge or confirm it when its already in someones hands? And out of all the places in the world for it to be leaked, why the Philippines? I mean no offense to our country, cuz after all, its my home too, but why not China, Japan or Korea? Correct me if im wrong, but aren't PS3's made in Japan or China? Why would it be leaked in the States and go as far as to be brought here?

Another argument is that hey, this is the Philippines, the land of fake stuff! There are PSP hand held look-a-likes that aren't real, Vii's, iPhones that claim to be iPhones but are fake, Nokia 6300's from China that hella look like the real deal, and even a Nokia N98.... yeah, N98, what the F#@K is that?! And for the guy who has it not to post pics or something on the net is also very suspicious.

Another thought is that it could be a "re-pack." What I mean by that is that someone got a hold of the fake/leaked casing from a few months ago, and just transfered the internals of the original PS3 into that one. Also maybe switching out the harddisk to a bigger one and making the power supply external, much like the PS2 Slim.

Anyway, I could go on and on about why I call this one a big hoax, but hey, I COULD be wrong. These are just my reasons why I don't think its real. I've gotta see it to believe it. Anyway, only time will tell, after those who have ventured to the land of the fakes to look for the coveted Slim PS3.

Natalie Portman Cast In Thor!!

According to our sources, Star Wars alum, Natalie Portman has been cast in Marvel Studios' upcoming superhero film, Thor.

Portman will play the role of Jane Foster, a nurse who became Thor's first love in the comics.

Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige is set to produce the film. Principal photography is set to begin on early 2010. Thor will hit theaters on May 20, 2011 under Paramount Picture.

I think Natalie Portman being cast in this film is simply awesome. The casting so far for this film shows a lot of potential, and I definitely have high hopes for this. I thought Chris Hemsworth was great in Star Trek, and Natalie Portman is without a doubt a great actress, and since Marvel has a lot of creative input on this, we can expect a great comic book film that actually stays true to the source material.

This was truly an awesome memorial, a memorial fit for a king. The performances were all great, and the speeches to Michael were all very popular in my opinion. But Michael's daughter, Paris' part was definitely the clincher for me.
My favorite performance had to be John Mayer's. I loved how he just played the guitar instead of singing the song. It was truly a powerful gesture in my opinion.

Alterations Plus is a well known place where you can have all sorts of clothing altered, but is it any good? I'm sure you can already tell from the title that its not. Okay, fine, they aren't bad in the sense that the finished product gets pretty close to the way you want it, but their service and personnel are bloody stupid.

Let me now specify that this post is to the Shangri-La Plaza branch. I haven't been to the other branches so it wouldn't be fair to judge, but if anyone from Alterations Plus reads this post, you guys should have your personnel at that branch re-trained, learn some proper english, or better yet, replace them entirely!

The major problem there is that they just don't deliver on time! As the customer, I'm already putting up with the higher prices (with hopes for better quality), moody sales ladies and longer due dates, so at least deliver my item on time! This is already the 2nd time that i've gone to pick something up and have them say its not done yet. And mind you, this is in a mall... where you have to pay for parking.

The first time this happened, they just flat out said "its not done, can you come back at 7pm?" The pick up time was at 5pm. Already it takes them a 1-3 days longer to finish altering your clothing and now you say its not yet done?! The 2nd time (which was just today), I went to pick up my jeans and what did they say? "It's not yet done, the pick up time is at 5pm." Yes, I went at 3pm (straight after work)... BUT... I clearly asked when I dropped them off, if I can pick it up ANYTIME on Saturday. "Yes," they replied. Knowing their pick up time is at 5pm, I asked again, and they repeated, "yes, anytime on saturday." And how long does it take to alter a pair of pants? For these, I had to wait 4 days! 4 days to alter jeans?!

So my suggestion to you Alterations Plus... get some new sales ladies that are better looking, friendlier, more accommodating AND deliver on time!!! I know its not the sales ladies fault if its not done, but its their responsibility to clearly tell the customer when it will be and when they can pick up the item. Time to take my clothing somewhere else.

When we think of some of the chart-topping artists of today, we think of Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Ne-Yo, Usher, etc. but when we analyze each of these artists' music, when we see its core and essence, we see Michael Jackson, "The King Of Pop", an inspiration to many of our artists today.

Today is truly a sad day. Music has lost a great. Michael Jackson has been reported to have died at the age of 50. Reports are saying that Jackson suffered a cardiac arrest Thursday afternoon. When paramedics arrived in his home, he was said to have no pulse, and the paramedics weren't able to get the pulse back.

Once they arrived at the hospital, the staff attempted to resucitate him, but were not successful.

Music legend Madonna has released this statement:

"I can't stop crying over the sad news. I have always admired Michael Jackson. The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever! My heart goes out to his three children and other members of his family. God bless."

At the time of his death, Michael was rehearsing for what was said to be his biggest comeback ever. He was scheduled for 50 shows at London Arena, which was set to begin on July 13th.

Jackson ranked alongside some of the biggest names in music, Elvis Pressley, and The Beatles. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, and his album, "Thriller" is still the best-selling album of all time. To this day, we still hear songs like "Billie Jean", "Beat It", and "Thriller" playing on our radios.

Michael Jackson is without a doubt the greatest entertainer of all time. He showed the world that it was possible for a man to "moonwalk", and his feverish, crotch-grabbing dance moves and high pitched singing defined a generation, my generation.

Quincy Jones released this statement:

"I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news. For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words. Divinity brought our souls together on The Wiz and allowed us to do what we were able to throughout the 80's. To this day, the music we created together on "Off The Wall," "Thriller" and "Bad" is played in every corner of the world and the reason for that is because he had it all…talent, grace, professionalism and dedication. He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever."

People often do not realize the effects of music on our lives. With a single song, a sad day can be turned around, it can inspire us, and a single song can lift us up, make us smile, and help us remember the days when we were happiest.

This was Michael Jackson's effect on the world. Jackson tore down walls that separated our nations, he united people of different races, and for a moment in the world's history, we sang in one voice.

People often ask me if I believed he had what it took to pull off a comeback, and I always replied, "without a doubt." Michael Jackson defined my childhood, and because of this, my heart is broken, and even wish that all this were untrue.

I remember listening to his music over and over, and watching his videos, I couldn't get enough. I even bought "Moonwalker" on DVD just a few years back.. To this day, I still listen to his music with my "King Of Pop" playlist on my iPod. Michael Jackson will always be an artist that I hold dear to my heart, and I think many can say the same. He has definitely shaped the man I've become, he is definitely the basis of my song selections today. To me, Michael Jackson will always be "The King Of Pop", as he has always been. I will always remember him and be grateful for what he gave my childhood, to all of us, his music, which will live on forever.

For those who witnessed his art, witnessed magic.

Michael Jackson has been the center of criticism in our media these past few years, but today, I believe that the whole world is in mourning, and for the last time, he's uniting the world.

New Alice In Wonderland Pics!

New pictures from the upcoming Tim Burton film, Alice In Wonderland have been released online. The pictures show Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham-Carter as The Red Queen, and Anne Hathaway as The White Queen.

The film is described to be more of a sequel to the original tale.

I guess this film is another one of those films where Depp plays a very awkward character. Hahaha! But this film does look interesting, and collaboration between Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have never really disappointed, and Depp as The Mad Hatter is awesome if you ask me.

Metallo Comes To Smallville!

It seems that another of Superman's famous villain is coming to The CW's Smallville. According to our sources, 90210 alum, Brian Austin Green has been cast for the role of Metallo, and will appear in at least the first two episodes of season 9.

In other news, no word yet has been released about the return of Sam Witwer (Doomsday). Fans are very curious to see what the producers do with the whole Zod arc. Stay tuned for updates.

I think that the introduction of Metallo is awesome. I mean Clark is at the Daily Planet, he's developed an alter ego, now he needs villains to throw down with. Metallo has always been an interesting villain to me since he's powered by kryptonite. Let's see where the producers decide to go with the character. I hope they develop a longer arc for him.

With the new iPhone 3GS beyond the horizon, Filipinos are already beginning to wonder when this new handset will be arriving here. Apple recently released an official statement stating the release dates for various countries, but there was no mention of The Philippines.

Well folks, rumor has it that the iPhone 3GS could be arriving here sooner than you think. July 9th to be exact. Globe has released a press release yet, but this is what we've been hearing. So for those eager beavers putting away cash for this, stay tuned for an official announcement, I believe that we'll be getting one real soon.

Indian Jones 5 Coming Soon?

According to our sources, a fifth Indian Jones film could be in production very soon! The plan for this installment is to have Harrison Ford pass the torch to his on-screen son, Shia Labeouf.

During a recent interview with Shia Labeouf was quoted saying, "Steve just said that he just cracked the story on it, and I think they're gearing that up."

The plot details are of course top secret, so stay tuned for more details.

Now how do I feel about a fifth installment? Well, I enjoyed the last one, and I feel that Shia Labeouf would be perfect to carry the torch. Indiana Jones is a timeless classic, and an icon that this generation shouldn't go on without. In my opinion, Stephen Spielberg + George Lucas + Shia Labeouf = Great entertainment. Bring it on.

Moose History 101:* Shortly after the XC90 debuted in 2002, Volvo organized several test drive events, where quite a few Volvo fans came out to see and drive the new SUV's on cone slalom courses to experience the advanced Dynamic Stability Traction Control (DSTC).* One of the courses was a special slalom, where a professional driver would take a carload of folks, accelerate to a high speed, take his foot off the brake and gas, and crank the wheel hard one direction, then the other (simulating avoiding an object in the road).* Any other tall vehicle would have certainly become unstable and possibly lost control or even rolled over, but the Volvo's DSTC took over and kept the SUV in perfect form without a hint of trouble.* This course was the "Moose Avoidance Test," a fairly common test for places that might actually have moose.

MOSCOW - An Italian woman who arrived late for the Air France plane flight that crashed in the Atlantic last week, killing all 228 on board, has died in a car accident, Italy's ANSA news agency reported.
Johanna Ganthaler, a pensioner from the Bolzano-Bozen Province (South Tyrol), and her husband Kurt, were vacationing in Brazil and missed Air France flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris on June 1. The couple took a flight to Europe later that day.

Spider-Man 4 Teaser Poster. Real Or Fake?

A teaser poster of the upcoming sequel, Spider-Man 4 was recently shown at the Licensing International Expo in Las Vegas. However, Sony has released a statement that the poster is indeed a fake, and that no artwork has been made for the film.

Fans however think otherwise. Some fans believe that this poster is actually legit, it just got negative reactions, and so Sony denied the authenticity. One fan who was actually at the expo stated that he asked if the poster was legit, and Sony answered, "yes."

I actually believe the fans on this one. I think Sony did release this poster for fans to see hoping to create buzz for the film, but I don't think they got the reactions they were looking for. I think Spider-Man 3 really did damage to this franchise, and I think Sony's got their work cut out for them.

Gaming Taken To A Whole New Level....

During Microsoft's press conference at E3 last night, they revealed new tech that challenges, and could very well destroy the Nintendo Wii's motion capture.

For the first time, Microsoft unveiled "Natal." This is basically an advanced motion capture camera that can detect 3-D environment, and transfer all your body movements into a 3-D environment. It also has facial recognition and voice recognition. "Natal" will ultimately give its users a controller-free gaming experience, and a headset-free experience for fans of XBOX Live.

As tradition, Microsoft uses names of cities as code names. "Natal" is named after the Brazilian city, as a tribute to the hometown of Microsoft director, Alex Kipman. "Natal" also means "to be born" in Latin.

"Natal" is Microsoft's attempt at broadening their audience beyond young-adult males, and maybe capture a part of Nintendo's market.

No word yet on the pricing or release date, but it is expected to launch in late 2010.

I gotta say, when Nintendo first announced their motion capture tech, I was pretty much floored! I mean, it definitely brought gaming to a new level. Now it looks like Microsoft took Nintendo's idea and vision, and kicked it up a shit load of notches!! Not only does the motion capture of "Natal" look like it works better, but the controller-free gaming experience is definitely an introduction to a new breed of gaming.

I don't currently own an XBOX 360, but "Natal" could be the one thing that could change that! When this hits, it's sure to capture people's interests (including mine), and I would totally head over to the nearest mall and pick up a console to get a taste of "Natal." Hahaha!

Food Trip: Cyma Greek Taverna

So last Sunday, me and my family decided to head over to Eastwood Mall and eat at the much talked about Cyma Greek Taverna. There was a lot of talk about this place so it was a must that we tried it!

Let's start with the overall look of the restaurant and its ambiance. The restaurant itself is pretty small. They offer a few tables inside, and a few more on the outside. During its peak hours, be ready to wait a few minutes to be seated cuz it does get pretty full. The ambiance of the place is pretty cozy, and the overall decoration of the resto is pretty greek-ish. Eating in the outside area is not as bad as it may seem since the breeze keeps everyone pretty comfortable.

Now on to the food. Now I have heard some pretty bad comments about Greek food, so I was a little uneasy going into this place. I really didn't know what to expect to be honest. But much to my surprise, they actually offered dishes very similar to that of Persian food, which I am a huge fan of. They had dishes lie kebabs and gyros (very similar to a shawarma). For my apetizer, I ordered Cyma's popular dish called, Saganaki.This dish is basically melted cheese that u place on four pieces of bread. The fun thing about this dish is that upon arriving at your table, the waiters all yell "Opa" which means "cheers" in Greek. This dish was actually really good. I could see why it was so popular. However, this dish is actually meant for more than one person in my opinion, cuz the taste does start to get boring after awhile, and four pieces of bread is just too much! Hahaha! For my main course, I ordered the Steak Shish-Kabob. This dish is pretty similar to its Persian conterpart. It's served in a skewer with pita bread, and it comes with the yogurt sauce that most Persian retaurants offer. This dish to me was excellent!! I absolutely loved it! With the addition of their hot sauce, this dish was pretty much everything I expected! This is definitely something I recommend for those who wanna try out this place!

I give the food here a solid 8/10 rating.

Now let's talk price. The pricing of this place is actually not bad. I mean the most expensive dish costs about 600+ pesos, so if you were to bring about P1,500, you could actually have a pretty decent meal. The Saganaki costs P200, and the Kabobs cost about P300-400.

Cyma is definitely brings us a new flavor, a restaurant that pulls us away from the usual Chinese and Japanese restaurants. With prices that could cater to all classes, I totally recommend this for everyone!

Could This Be The Next iPhone 3G?

MacRumors is claiming that this could very well be the next iPhone 3G. As you can see, it basically looks like the current 3G but with a matte finish.

Now as most of you should know, all this is simply rumor, and Apple has yet to confirm these leaked photos. Stay tuned for updates.

When I look at this picture, I do think that the matte finish looks cool, but I always thought that the new iPhone's look was gonna change considerably. I mean, if we compare the first-gen iPhone to the 3G, we can see that there's a pretty big difference, so I assumed it would be the same for the next-gen 3G. Now whether or not this is the final look, I can't say, but I seriously hope not. If this is the new iPhone, then I think I'd stick to my shiny white. But I guess it's all preference. I mean, this should be more scratch resistant.

Fringe Episodes For Download!!

Some of you may remember, last year I posted about a new J.J Abrams TV show called Fringe. The show basically revolves around an eccentric scientist named Walter Bishop, his son, Peter Bishop, and FBI Agent Olivia Dunham. Together they investigate different aspects of fringe science, such as levitation, reanimation, teleportation, nano technology, and artificial intelligence.

The pilot episode for Fringe cost about $10 million to produce, making it the most expensive pilot ever shot!

I gotta say, when I first downloaded and watched the pilot for this show, I was like, "nah, not my kind of thing." A part of me felt like it was too boring,and that it probably wouldn't do well, but as I watched on, the stories became less boring, and more interesting, and within days, I was hooked! Fringe easily became my guilty pleasure for this summer!! For those who are fans of sci-fi, this is the show for you!! Fringe is a combination of CSI, X-Files, and The Twilight Zone! If I haven't convinced you already, then watch it for J.J Abrams, the man behind Lost, and this year's Star Trek! Abrams and his team definitely give us a new show that will revive the sci-fi genre in the small screens!

PSP Go: Confirmed!!

With E3 just around the corner, rumors of upcoming titles, systems and handhelds have flooded the internet, leaving gamers roaring for confirmations! Well one thing that VANTAGE can confirm for you guys is the upcoming PSP Go.

The PSP Go is the evolution of the Sony PSP, which sports a brand new look, and is packed with loads of new features! Features like a sliding screen that hides the buttons and UMD drive, 16GB of internal memory, bluetooth, and many more.

More titles have also been rumored to be released for this handheld. Titles like Kojima's new Metal Gear installment, Little Big Planet, and Gran Turismo.

I'm definitely loving Sony's new sleek design for this handheld. I definitely wouldn't mind owning one of these if I were to base my purchase on hardware alone. But let's admit it, the first generation PSP also looked cool as hell, but it failed to make sales and generate cash for Sony. Nintendo's DS was definitely king in the handheld wars. My advice to Sony, make sure that they release some big name titles if you guys wanna sell this. I mean, it looks great,the features sound promising, but nobody's gonna buy this if there aren't any games to play. Metal Gear, Little Big Planet, and Gran Turismo is definitely a step in the right direction. Now let's keep the games coming!

Oh and another thing, one tip I wanna share with you guys, don't buy one right away. Sony is definitely gonna release a variety of colors, so be patient. I'm definitely holding out for a white or red one!

Melrose Place 2.0 Promo!

In vein of the recent relaunch of the 90210 franchise, The CW has also decided to relaunch 90210's sister series, Melrose Place. And like 90210, the show will continue from the previous series, featuring old characters, and new characters with ties to the old ones.

Laura Leighton, who played Sydney Andrews in the old show will return as a recurring character, as well as Thomas Clabro, who played Michael Mancini. Talks of bringing back Heather Locklear surfaced during production but Locklear opted not to return.

The premise of the show has been kept very top secret, but the show will follow the original formula and chronicle a group of twentysomethings dwelling in Los Angeles' trendy Melrose neighborhood.

Smallville producers, Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin will be the show-runners.

Well I was definitely a fan of the original show and I'm definitely interested to see what they do with the series. But if this is gonna be anything like the new 90210 series, then you can count me the fuck out! The new 90210 is good I guess, but it isn't anything like the original. It's basically just another teen soap with a 90210 title!

And another thing, what's up with bringing back all these old shows/movies? Are Hollywood's writers really out of ideas? These reboots and remakes are gonna get old really fast, and I think viewers will stop tuning in as soon as that happens.

Food Trip: Wagyu Stone Grill

A few weeks ago, my family and I decided to head over to Eastwood Mall and try out this restaurant called Wagyu Stone Grill. Now for those who aren't really in the know, wagyu is basically steak of high grade. It's suppose to be taste better, and it's suppose to be a lot softer.

Now let's start with the ambiance of the resto. Upon entering this place, it immediately gives you a feeling of class, with interior designing done well. It definitely has that modern minimalist feel going on. Jazz music also plays throughout the restaurant.

Now let's talk price. This place pretty much caters to middle and upper classes since the cheapest meat you can find is about 900 pesos. Pretty steep if you ask me.

Now on to the food. My family is pretty much composed of meat-eaters. We love our steak, be it at home, at a restaurant, here in the Philippines, or another country, we will definitely go out of our way to have some meat, so we basically have a basic idea of what tastes good and what doesn't. We were all pretty excited to try this place out since they did offer wagyu, and they had the whole stone grill aspect as well. Stone grill is basically a piece of volcanic rock or something that you cook your meat on, so all that sounded pretty fun. Now as we were eating, I noticed that nobody was really reacting to the food. So as I took paid closer attention to my food, I came to a conclusion that while the food was good, there are definitely other places that offer better for a lot cheaper. I mean Le Souffle was definitely a lot better if you ask me. And so as I continued to eat, my dad turns to me and says that his food was "just alright", and everyone else pretty much said the same thing.

If I were to rate the food out of 10, I'd give it a solid 7.5.

Now don't get me wrong. The food is good. After all, the steaks are wagyu. All I'm saying is that there are definitely places out there that offer a lot better. But if what you're looking for is wagyu with the added fun of cooking it yourself on a stone grill, then this is your place! But the steaks in Le Souffle are definitely more tasty in my opinion.

Vantage Review: inFamous. - from a ordinary Joe's point of view

inFamous… A game praised by many gaming sites, Sony stating how they have high hopes for the game, even an early release signifying that it has already been tuned to Sucker Punch’s liking, but is it really worth its while? We at Vantage aren’t hardcore gamers or in-depth reviewers, but we do like our games and we do know what is good and what sucks. So we hope we’re able to voice what all those regular Joes out there like us are thinking and what they want to know.

And in one word, inFamous is… AWESOMENESSTASTIC!!! I didn’t feet the hype for this game, nor was I interested at all before its broken release date. It had great potential to fail, especially with its other sandbox predecessors such as Grand Theft Auto and Crackdown. But somehow, someway, Sucker Punch was able to combine all the great elements from these games into one and add its own twist. I like to say, it’s like choose your own adventure GTA: IV with powers! The karma system in the game is great, giving you a Bioshock-type feel when having to choose what to do, making available both sides to a decision, putting you on the spot and making you more immersed in the game. But we’ll go a little deeper into that later.

Lets start with a basic rundown on what’s going on in Empire City where this all began. Our main character, lil ol’ Cole, was tasked to deliver a package, no harm done right? Well, not unless your package blows up in your face and along with half of Empire City. After Cole awakens, he finds himself charged with electrical superpowers. With a whole chunk blown out of Empire City, a plague also sweeps its people giving the government no choice but to quarantine the entire city. The people of Empire City, now stripped of their freedom, are left to fend for themselves as the government thinks of a way to save this post-apocalyptic event. As Cole, you face this head-on, with your newly acquired powers to save or control the city, keep peace or rule with fear, and track this thing called the Ray Sphere that gave you your powers.

Now onto Cole whose power is electricity, shooting it from his hands as a bolt of lightning, a force blast, riding the rails, making a shield etc… You start off with only a few powers like the lightning bolt and force blast, but it’s more than enough to fry and destroy everything in sight. As the game progresses by finishing missions, opening up new parts of the city and eventually new islands by restoring power to them, new powers are unlocked and almost all of your powers are upgradeable (through XP), allowing for more destruction. Through the karma system, which basically lets you decide to be good or evil, powers specific to them will be unlocked. To tell you the truth, there are so many aspects to this game that is it hard not to make this a long review, but I will try my best.

Based on how you tackle missions, whether your going to be the all out martyr or sacrifice the people for your greater good, your karma will lean towards being good or evil. This basically plays into a two class system and forces you to choose to be one or the other. You can be neutral but powers specific to those classes won’t be unlocked or upgradeable. For me, this is one downside to the game. As a normal guy, some choices given to you will force you to be evil, yet other times, you want to be good. But when you start being good or bad, you best stick to it. The basic differences between the specific class powers is that a good Cole’s powers/attacks are more focused, attacking and restraining enemies without dealing too much damage to surrounding civilians/hostages, whereas an evil Cole’s powers are more destructive and will take out practically everything in the vicinity. The differences in powers are pretty clear cut which in turn, is good because it gives you a different way and incentive of playing the game more than once. Not to mention playing each side yields a different outcome/story and how your friends, along with people of the city view you. When choosing a side, how the city looks will also differ. For example, if your good, the city will start going back to normal, showing off a brighter color scheme and happier tone, whereas if your evil, the city may still look grim and you will still notice people suffering.

Onto the graphics department, which will be short... and sweet, because the graphics are gorgeous. Lighting is top notch and Cole looks great! Especially during those Batman moments where you're just sitting up on a rooftop or water tower somewhere, looking down at your city. Everything is fluid and Grand Theft Auto IV's graphics seem like nothing special. The only problem is that when traveling fast on the train tracks or rails, the distance (far distance) will pop out of nowhere, but honestly, it isn't a big deal.

But this all means nothing if Cole controls like a stone. Good thing he doesn’t. He can scale and climb practically anything and everything that looks like a handhold. And he climbs quickly, very cat-like. Right from the get-go, it was so fun and easy to control Cole, probably spending the first hour just climbing and jumping around the city. It’s also handy that the city is Cole’s urban jungle. Its extremely enjoyable much like back in the day of the PS2, web-slinging all around the city of Spiderman 2, and climbing and highest buildings, just to jump off them. Unlike Spiderman though, Cole won’t suffer any damage dropping down to the ground. What’s also great is that Sucker Punch gives us the feeling of owning the city and the different islands, making you feel like THE MAN wherever you are. Handholds are where they need to be and everything just feels in place, making you feel like an expert right off the bat. But some high holds and platforming still feel intense and give you a great sense of how high you are… very heart-pounding. The city feels alive, hearing sounds from civilians in pain or asking why this is happening. Empire city along with its inhabitants play a big role in setting the theme, atmosphere and mood of the game. It wouldn’t be as good without it. Indeed, they go hand in hand. And you won’t really have to worry about draining your powers since almost everything in the city provides you with the electricity you need by draining it from lamp posts, cars, fuse boxes etc… Again, the city does behave differently based on your choice of being good or evil, praising you if your good, and stoning you if your not.

Story… check. Character… check. Graphics... check. Controls… check. City… check. What about the gameplay and missions? The game is no where near a breeze but at the same time, it’s not tremendously hard or annoying. Enemies can attack you in small groups, single enemies from rooftops can shoot you from afar and random break outs of huge amounts of enemies can flank you. Hordes get difficult to deal with especially when in an open, unpowered area where Cole can’t charge his powers and health. You really can’t deal with them head on here, so maneuvering and finding the best route to your target comes into play. Rooftop enemies can be somewhat of a pain as they shoot you from above and afar and you can’t really do anything except run or climb up to take them out. Missions are very well paced, giving you the choice to take your time with its numerous types of side missions, ranging from killing people, dealing with civilians with various problems, deliveries, check point races and much more, or just jumping into the main plot line. There is enough variety with the side missions making them not feel redundant. Both are rewarding as doing side missions also give you XP and some also give you the opportunity to tilt your karma meter to good or evil, allowing you to reach the Hero rank (good) or the inFamous rank (evil).

Aside from all of these, what makes this such a good game is the attention to detail. Little things like TV broadcasts about you, pedestrians reacting towards you and posters on the wall depicting your personality, make this game all the better and immerse you more into its universe. Empire City is definitely one of the big stars of this game and the little details make the city come alive and show you how your actions affect it.

This is definitely a MUST OWN for PS3 owners out there. I don’t care if you don’t like sandbox games or gameplay, this is a must buy! I will even go on the limb to say that for those waiting for a right time to buy a PS3, this is it, because of this game. After playing the game since its early release, the only things I find annoying are the enemies on top of rooftops and the inability to choose a class between just good and evil. But other than that, I can’t find anything else wrong! Scaling the city from the get go and hours after that, collecting blast shards (to increase your power meter), collecting other bonuses scattered across the city (like recordings that deepen the story), doing all the side missions along with the main ones, and just wreaking havoc for no apparent reason will easily take you a good 20-30 hours. Then there’s the choice of being good or evil, which can clock you another good 20 hours. There’s definitely plenty to come back to. Paying around $460 for a PS3, inFamous and around 60 hours of gameplay sounds like a good deal to me!

T3's iPhone Nano.....

T3 had recently commissioned a team of writers/designers to come up with some concepts of some of the future products that are just around the corner. This covered everything from shoes to television sets. The iPhone Nano was also one of the products that they worked on.

This concept would supposedly come with EDGE (No 3G), 16gb of flash memory, a 5MP camera, A2DP, and a nice aluminum case.

I totally love T3's idea on this phone. My personal favorite has got to be the aluminum case. Yeah, I know it would certainly add to the weight, but I fell like it gives the phone a more elegant look.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Returning To The Big Screen?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joss Whedon's famous vampire slyaer could be returning to the big screens. Our reports say that Whedon is not attached to the film, and it's not set up at a studio, but Vertigo Entertainment is working with original movie director, Fran Rubel Kuzui and husband, Kaz Kuzui on what is being labeled as a relaunch.

For those who are unaware, Buffy actually hit the big screens before hitting out TV sets. The film came out in 1992, and it starred Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry. Sarah Michelle Gellar later filled the role in the TV series.

According to the Kuzuis, the new film will have no connection the original film or the TV series. They have made it clear that they plan to restart the story, without trampling on the existing universe that Whedon has created of course.

In the Buffy, universe, it is said that there is a new slayer for every generation, and that is what the Kuzuis plan on capitalizing on. A new slayer for this generation. They said that the film will be darker, and an event-sized movie.

They are currently meeting with writers and taking pitches, and will soon pitch it to studios once they have a rough draft. They also haven't ruled out the involvement of Joss Whedon.

Another Buffy movie? Hmm...well, I was a fan of the first film, and I did enjoy the TV series, but doesn't anyone have an original idea anymore? Seems to me that Hollywood has started a trend. A trend of restarting or remaking original films. I mean, don't get me wrong, I do enjoy some of these reboots and remakes, but I think the audience will get sick of these very soon!

Now about Buffy. I think I'd watch the film. I mean, it'd be interesting to see where they take this story. My advice to them, get Joss Whedon involved, and cast someone hot!! It's the only way it'll work. Trust me!

inFAMOUS Hero Ending

Sucker Punch's recent title, inFAMOUS was released earlier here in the Philippines, so I made sure I got my hands on it as soon as possible. Let me just say, this game was of the hook! I couldn't put it down, and I played it straight for a whole week! Yeah, it's that good!

Ghostbusters 3 To Start Filming This Winter?

The Los Angeles Times have recently reported that the third installment of the Ghostbusters franchise could start filming as early as this winter!!

All the old cast members have come on board for more ectoplasmic adventures!

Dan Akroyd was quoted saying, "We could be in production this winter!!"

Akroyd had hoped Reitman would agree to return as director, but also understands that he's a "big-time producer" now. His second choice to helm the project is fellow cast member Harold Ramis, who of course, co-wrote the first two films, and has directed many successful films such as Groundhog Day.

The plot of this new film is of course very top secret, but Akroyd has said that he hopes to introduce a new five-member "new generation" team, with lots of female members. He was quoted saying, "I'd like it to be a sort of passing-of-the-torch movie. Let's visit the old characters briefly, and happily and have them there as a family but let's pass it on to a new generation."

I am definitely psyched for this! I've always considered myself a huge Ghostbusters fan. I mean, I loved the movies, I watched the cartoons, and I collected the toys!! To introduce a new Ghostbusters team for this generation is totally awesome! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what direction they take with this franchise!

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Avoiding Pacquiao?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was recently featured on ESPN to talk about his upcoming bout with Juan Marquez, but was instead grilled about the best pound-for-pound fighter, Manny Pacquiao.

Ever since the Pacquiao's victory over Ricky Hatton, people have been roaring for a fight between MAyweather Jr. and Pacquiao. But when asked about a possibility of a fight, Mayweather Jr. simply replies, "I ain't chasing no fight." So could Mayweather Jr. be avoiding the inevitable?

In my opinion, I think a fight between these two would be the fight of all fights to see! I'm a huge fan of Manny Pacquiao, and I firmly believe that he's got what it takes to come out the victor, but I know for a fact that Mayweather Jr. will not go down without a fight! I'm hoping Mayweather Jr. beats Marquez so that we can get the Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight started!! I can't wait!!

Alec Baldwin's "Mail-Order Wife" Controversy....

30 Rock star, Alec Baldwin has been at the center of controversy recently due to a joke he made during his guest spot on the Late Show With David Letterman.

Baldwin, who joked, "about getting a Filipino mail-order wife at this point....or a Russian one," has infuriated Filipinos all over the world.

Philippine Senator Ramon Revilla felt that Baldwin's joke was insult to the country, and to Filipinos in other parts of the world. He also stated that The Philippines has very strict laws against mail order brides.

"Let him try to come here in the Philippines and he'll see mayhem," said Sen. Revilla.

All I can say is, I'm not surprised that The Philippines has been joked about countless times. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm a proud Pinoy and I totally disapprove of Baldwin's comments, but with the way our country has been operating the past few years, I'm pretty sure we'll be getting more jokes in the future. It's a good thing we have Manny Pacquiao to help improve our country's reputation.

Chris Hemsworth Cast As Thor....

K, for those who don't know who Chris Hemsworth is, he played George Kirk in this year's summer hit, Star Trek.

According to our sources, Hemsworth has entered final negotiations to play the lead role in Marvel Studios' upcoming film, Thor. Marvel will be releasing an official statement soon, so stay tuned for that.

Hemsworth was supposedly spotted by a scouting agent in Australia and dragged him to Los Angeles to read for the part. Casting agents at first rejected him early on, but as soon as he his audition was put on tape, the casting agents started singing very different tunes. It was reported that Daniel Craig (Casino Royale) turned down the role, and Hemsworth beat out other candidates such as, Kevin McKidd (Rome), and Triple H (WWE).

Marvel supposedly wanted to finish the casting this month. The film has reportedly been pushed back from July 16, 2010 to March 20, 2011.

All I can say is, "thank god they didn't go with Triple H!!!" I am a big, huge fan of J.J Abrams' Star Trek, and I though Chris Hemsworth did absolutely great as George Kirk. Sure he only had minutes on screen, but that first scene was one of my favorite scenes in the movie! I think he would be great as Thor. I mean, just grow his hair and give him a beard, then voila, Thor!! And I got no doubt he's got the acting chops to play the role!

Twilight Saga: New Moon Poster Released....

Summit Entertainment has recently released the first poster for their anticipated sequel, "Twilight Saga: New Moon."

The film stars returning cast members, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner. The film will be directed by Chris Weitz, and the sequel is written by Melissa Rosenberg.

Plot Summary:

In Twilight Saga: New Moon, Bella is devastated by the sudden departure of her vampire beau, Edward, but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with childhood friend, Jacob Black. As their friendship grows, Bella is taken deeper into the world of werewolves, the ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested.

I wasn't really a fan of the books or the first film. I personally thought that the first film was cheesy, and too girly for me. But, I don't deny the large fan base of the film, and I know girls everywhere can barely wait for this film. So to our female readers, I hope you enjoyed this post.

Linkin Park: New Divide

Now I know most of you aren't used to seeing rock/alternative music here on our site, but today I decided to make an exception. With Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen just around the corner, I thought I'd add to the hype. I give you guys Linkin Park's new single, "New Divide." This track will be featured on the soundtrack of the upcoming Transformers film and may act as its main theme.

The song is definitely another solid effort by Linkin Park. It's because of songs like this that make them one of my favorite rock groups. However, I do feel that their last song, "What I've Done" which was featured in the first Transformers film was better. But hey, maybe I'll feel different after hearing it a few more times, or maybe after I go see the movie! Hahaha!

I honestly think that his record label isn't doing a good enough job at timing his album's release, or even promoting it for that matter. I mean, I think the new tracks from this album are dope, and Studdard deserves to sell albums.

Sherlock Holmes Trailer Hits!!

"Sherlock Holmes" is an upcoming film based on Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. The film will star Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes, and Jude Law as Watson. The film will be directed by Guy Ritchie.

Warner Bros. has released an official plot summary:

"In a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous characters, Sherlock Holmes sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country."

I have no doubt in my mind that this movie is gonna be really good. Robert Downey Jr. is arguably the hottest actor out there today. This trailer in my opinion looks awesome! I think that the movie will have just enough action and comedy to satisfy the audience! I will definitely be there on opening day to go see this!!

Angels & Demons Open With Disappointing Numbers.....

Ron Howard's and Tom Hanks' adaptation "Angels & Demons" which acts as a sequel to their 2006 hit, "The Da Vinci Code" took in about $48 million, which is a little softer than its predecessor. A reason for this could be because the novel itself was less popular than "The Da Vinci Code", and also because there was less controversy this time around.

But don't count the film out yet, "Demons" was able to take in $104 million internationally. And word-of-mouth has been generally positive due to its tight storyline and action sequences, which could help the film reach $150 million domestically. After all, "Da Vinci Code" grossed $514 million internationally, and only $217 million domestically. So, "Demons" could still easily be a big summer hit for Sony.

I actually just saw the film last night and thought it was good, but I liked "Da Vinci Code" better. But, I did like how this time around, the storyline was a lot tighter, and there really were no boring parts, unlike "The Da Vinci Code." I do believe that this film will still be huge, and that Sony will probably make good cash from it. After all, it's Ron Howard, Tom Hanks, and Brian Grazer, these are huge money-making names in Hollywood.
